About Alachua Cogongrass Initiative

In recent years, Alachua County has realized the need to organize a cooperative effort to cross property boundaries when addressing invasive species management. The cogongrass initiative of 2007 has created a platform to extend our efforts and include other target species in our area. As of spring 2008, this cooperative effort is still in its infancy, but is striving to involve more agencies and private landowners in managing this highly invasive plant.

We focus on:

  • Creating a centralized repository for invasive species information
  • Assisting Alachua County residents with identification and management of target species
  • Coordinating efforts with other agencies and private partners
