Description:

We are looking for a Seasonal Senior Burn Crew member, for a 6 month seasonal position, between January 5th- June 26th, 2026. Housing is provided! They will assist with all aspects of prescribed fire and other land management efforts across diverse ecosystems in the Central Florida area.

The Senior Burn Crew Member (SBCM) works in a team environment and participates in wildland fire operations overseeing staff and volunteers during fire related activities which include ignition, control, mop-up, suppression, monitoring. SBCM may conduct other land management activities as assigned. As part of the SBCM’s ongoing professional development, they will be responsible for keeping abreast of new burn techniques and equipment to enhance skills and maintain/grow professional fire certification credentials.  In addition, they shall work to build and maintain relationships in the professional fire community and in the local community where the Conservancy works. This may include participation in wildland fire suppression activities in partnership with other non-profits, local fire departments, and local, state, and federal agencies. Together, we can increase the number of acres treated, gain experience, and have a positive influence on natural habitats and the communities surrounding them. Specifically, we will support The Nature Conservancy and partner organizations throughout Central Florida to achieve their fire management goals.

Under the guidance of our Fire Manager and Land Management Coordinators, you’ll assist with prescribed burns, ensure safety protocols, maintain equipment, and operate various machinery such as ATVs, UTVs, tractors, and chainsaws.
